Conservation Contracting

Conservation contracting has become a large part of the company, our large selection of machinery enables us to match the correct machine to the task.

Tree Clearance and chipping

clearance-chippingRecent projects have included clearing extensive areas of trees and scrub to link areas of open heath together on Ash Ranges, this helps to create large areas of heathland habitat for breeding birds, in particular Nightjar, Woodlark and Dartford Warbler. This involved cutting and chipping all the trees and scrub with all the chip being sold to Slough Heat and Power as Bio fuel.

Heathland scrapesscraping_and_hauling

Heathland scrapes are carried out using our excavators to remove the needle mat and expose the mineral soil, this allows the heather seed to become established. The scraped material can be bunlded at the sides or moved to a different area.

Mulching

mulching_alder_in_fleet_pondThe areas can be mulched prior to scraping using one of our mulchers, either tracked or tractor mounted depending on access. Our smallest mulcher is under 2m wide and weighs less than 6 tons, it is on wide tracks giving it a low ground pressure. The advantage to mulching is the area can then be managed mechanically without the danger of damage from hidden stumps.

Ditch Cleaning and Maintenance

Landscape restorationDitches need cleaning, something that's been overlooked in recent years with predictable results. We can offer a service cleaning and maintaining ditches from cutting back the vegetation to removing the silt build up. Our range of machines allow us to match the correct machine to the job, our 2.5 ton excavator on rubber tracks is the most useful machine.
